Tales Are Meant To Be Told

He told her that he’d love her,
Until after the stars turned to dust
He told her she was gold
And silver and velvet and maroon
He told her she was love
As bright as Fall’s first leaves
He told her she was twilight
A breath of morning air
He told her she was gentle,
And fierce, and strongly willed
He told her she was eternity,
Time that wouldn’t stand still
He told her she was summer
And winter and spring and fall
He told her he will love her
For as long as the grass grows green
He told her and he told her
As insistent as the sun
But she knew in all his breaths
Tales are meant to be told
