Dusty Dusk

Hands curved aggressively around the steering wheel, she raced
Constantly straining to release her burden on the accelerator
Constantly shaking to waken herself out of her head
Windows down
Eyes forced open
Music loud
Thoughts repackaged
She drove into the dusty dusk until the night hugged her tight
She drove to the road’s end
And slammed the door that contained her life
She stood, breathing
In the middle of the desert
And in the midst of nothing
She felt everything
And finally un-alone
She never did believe that stars were science
