Autumn’s Momentary Rule

Autumn’s Momentary Rule

For the first time I saw purple in the grass
I craned my neck from under the brim of my hat
And saw the barren tree,
Halfhearted twigs and some desiccated leaves.
Summer has passed, autumn breathes
The first chill in the air rustles sun sodden leaves
And oxygen crisps the air in between
With Summer’s wrath exhausted and Winter’s frost still brewing
Autumn cools the tension
Just momentarily ruling
