Be (ABC Series)

Be (ABC Series)

She gave up being a bird in an aviary,
Beguiled and belied by illusions of open skies
Bleak and blighted
She was no longer
But in her state of being
She had an aversion to barred skies
Those bars that obstruct infinitely focused photographs
The annoyances that cover the smallest bits of beauty
And she knew it was not a matter of parallax
She needed the view
She needed the clarity

She wasn’t a braggart but her words were bombastic
Only to belabor the belittled changes in the sky
The sky that always left her with a bemused look
A look that gave her a bellicose confidence
But shielded her still
And made her belligerent with the world that forgot to mind the brindled sky

She gave it up,
Hiding in ignorance
And shadows of clouds,
To boycott the bars and the aviary
Because she wanted to be
Just be
And she wanted the birds to be, too
