Breakfast with Statues
Have we really become more connected
Or have we drifted further into ourselves?
An ostentatious need to prove we are rich in goods and bads and bodies
Reduces our flesh to plastic
Until we, too, stand like proud mannequins in a window
Nameless and faceless in person,
But a celebrity when wrapped in the paper-thin, intangible web
Warmed by the acquaintance of praise
And fed by pictures of colored plates in countries halfway around the world
To prove we are rich in goods and bads and bodies
As we dine alone at full tables
